Live at the BET Awards, the closest I can be…….from my couch lol, remote in hand refreshment in check……Welcome to the BET 2012 Awards. It held on Sunday, the 1st of July and will air on BET tonight. Stay tuned……it can’t be missed. It was full of hot performances, funny skits, amazing features and best of all a tribute to Whitney Houston! May her soul continue to rest in peace.
The 1st performance of the Night is always the one most people look forward to. The show was opened by Kanye West and his new group, Good music, (no sign of his african protégée Dbanj) opened the show with Mercy. Dressed in all white, each member hit the stage to their verses of the song, 1st was Big Sean, then Pusha T and lastly 2Chainz. Next Kanye switch into his new song, New God Glow. I not a fan of the song but guess its a crowd favorite ’cause it got a standing ovation (Yes Kim K glow was bright enough to brighten the room). After the show was officially opened, and Host of the Night, Samuel who promised to “deliver better than your mama”…….he started the show with a parody of Nigga’s in Paris. He was later joined by Spike Lee. Samuel and Spike went on to present the 1st award of the Night.
Bad meets Evil
Diddy Dirty Money
Maybac Music Group
The throne – Do I need to explain why Jay Z and Kanye won that. Kanye walked on stage alone to receive the award and just as he was wishing Jay was there to rescue him before he says something stupid, Jay walks in from behind looking as fly as ever…..now you wonder why I love him……..
The 2nd performance of the night, the one and only Usher Rayomond singing his hot tune Climax. Next presenter, Taraji P Henson, who came to present the award for the Best Actor. I just love her.
Kevin Hart – Kevin Hart deserved it. His role in Think like a man was dope, he got me laughing over and over again. Thumbs up.
the Book of Ross says……
My bitch bad-looking like a bag of money That bitch bad looking like a bag of money I go and get it and I let her count it for meI fuck her good and she always ride it for me
I got this drink in my cup I done came down, hold up
Now you see every one knows that Nas only had one mic but we know it’s better to have 2Chainz
Best New Artist
Big Sean – Not to say he didn’t deserve it but I think Diggy would have been better as best New artist. At least he came with a shirt. How cute, he came with his mum.
Next Samuel Jackson introduced the next performers from Sunday Best, Jessica Reedy, Yolonda Adams, Y’anna Crawley…….the gospel song was dope and had the likes of Monica, Michelle (destiny’s child) on their feet and Jamie Foxx and Trey Songs bumping their head to the awesome tune. Its got a partial standing ovation.
Next presenter to take the stage, Newlywed star, Megan Good…she couldnt stop blushing, congrats to the her and her husband. She came to present the award for the RnB.

With an orchestra type into, she performed a new song Celebration.the actual song features Drake, Nas & Young Jeezy. She then switch to her other tune featuring 2Chainz – Beez
In The Trap, he definitely murdered the track…..Hmm I just can’t seem to ever get over this Nicki’s ass.

Samuel Jackson was back to introduce Melanie Fiona, performing her song, “Wrong Side of a Love Song” and proving why break-ups can inspire the best music. She recently ended her relationship with CSI Miami actor Adam Rodriguez. I download the song before it was over. Awesome track……Own it now, can’t wait for the video to come out.
Next on stage, to present on of the honorary awards of the evening, the CEO of BET, Debra Lee. She presented the 2012 BET honors awards to Rev. Alfred Charles “Al” Sharpton. He was celebrated, in part, for his voter education efforts, his tireless pursuit of civil rights, and being of general service to the African-American community for many decades! If I were American my motto for the year would be, “It’s not about Obama, It about your Mama.” That was my favourite part of Rev. Al’s acceptance speech.
One of the most entertaining humours part of the evening was when Samuel introduced thee skit, The Real Husbands of Hollywood. At 1st, I thought it was a parody of the housewives series (Atlanta) but then I heard its an actual show.
Next on stated was the adorable Lala Anthony
Yolonda Adams – once I heard her name, I knew she would win it. God Bless her……she says, she is a witness that, you can do anything you put her heart into. She gave a special shout out to Monica, Brandy, Beyonce and Solange. The world needs us all, please use your gifts responsibly. I must say that’s the best acceptance speech i’ve heard in a while.
James Fortune and Fire
The next performer was D’Angelo….this was the first time he has performed like on stage in 12 years……At least he put some of the excess weight and is slowly on his ways to looking as hot as he used to. But that hair situation needs to be sorted. During the performance the camera sneak peaked Common looking hot as always (Have you seen him in the VH1 series single girls, he plays a hot Mayor……hmmm a fine man in control…..I cant hate) and Solange in her continuous ode to the African-ish!
Next on stages was Mindless Behaviour and Mike Epps……..this group reminds me immature, b2k and co……I hope just like those, we don’t wonder were they are when they come of age. One of the group members sort of disses Lauryn Hills current tax situation……Not cool. They presented the next award.

Next on stage was, according to Samuel L Jackson, actor/actress, writer, producer, director, Tyler Perry. He came to present the Lifetime Achievement Award and introduce the next performers, Joe, Tyrese and Faith Evans singing a Maze ft. Frankie Beverly classic who in his words have been given us good music for 35 years. After receiving their award, they performed to one of their classics and obviously a crowd favourite……I gotta admit, they still got it. Bdw, who was Jay looking at?
Next I must say what I have been waiting for……..The tribute to Whitney Houston
First on Stage was Mariah Carey, you can’t forget the oscar winning debut When you believe. I remember back in the days, me and my friend holding fake concerts with hair brushes in our hands as mics trying to sing that song. Mariah Carey started off sharing memories of the times she spent with Whitney, about a supposed beef between the two stars to just being close friends.
1st to sing was Monica singing an emotional rendition of Whitney’s gospel tune I Love The Lord
2nd, was Brandy – I’m Your Baby Tonight and I Wanna Dance With Somebody.
Wow it’s been about 5 months since the sudden death of Whitney Houston. But is clear that she left more than a mark in the hearts of many and she would never be forgotten, in our hearts, in the music world and in general.
Next was her co-stars from the movie, waiting to exhale…….I still watched it a month a go……….”She truly was every woman”………The whole auditorium it was clear to see that Whitney was indeed an inspiration to many, and for some, it was hard to hold back the tears, especially when Whitney’s mom, Cissy, took to the stage in a more than emotional tribute to her daughter titled ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’.
Finally, the tribute ended with Chaka Khan singing ‘I’m Every Woman,’ a song that Whitney made into a chart-topping hit in 1993. Behind an orchestra and several background singers, a red-haired and svelte Khan gave a celebratory performance that had the whole audience — men and women — on their feet cheering, “I’m every woman.”
The Whitney Houston tribute was a major highlight at the BET Awards. Bravo, BET!
Rest in peace, Whitney Houston. You will be forever missed.
Watch stars give their last goodbyes to Whitney
