It all About RIO DE JANEIRO
Rio de Janeiro will be hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games now that is definitely something to be excited about. You can bet that Brazil has definitely been bumped up the list of my top 10 places to visit.
Brief history about the once capital city of Brazil (1763–1960).
Rio de Janeiro has the second largest economy of Brazil behind only São Paulo state. It is located within the Brazilian geopolitical region classified as the Southeast. It is bounded on the east and south by the Atlantic Ocean. Rio de Janeiro has an area of 43,653 km². The state’s largest cities are Rio de Janeiro, São Gonçalo, Duque de Caxias, Nova Iguaçu, Belford Roxo, Niterói, São João de Meriti, Campos dos Goytacazes, Petrópolis,Volta Redonda, Magé, Itaboraí, Macaé, Mesquita, Cabo Frio, Nova Friburgo, Barra Mansaand Angra dos Reis.
Rio de Janeiro is the smallest state in the Southeast macroregion and one of the smallest in Brazil. It is, however, the third most populous Brazilian state — with a population of 16 million of people in 2011 (making it the largest population density state in Brazil) —, and the third longest coastline in the country.
Event i’m looking forward to in Rio, Brazil.
The Carnival: And o yes the carnival. The Carnival is a national holiday in Brazil. The Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is a world famous festival held before Lent every year and considered the biggest carnival in the world with two million people per day on the streets. The first festivals of Rio date back to 1723. While many Rio habitants leave the city for quiet places, many tourists (including Brazilians) arrive Rio to participate in the Carnival celebrations. This year the carnival started on the 18th of February 2012, next year it is scheduled to hold on the 9th of February 2013. All event during the carnival are ticketed events. For us foreigners, tickets to the Sambadrome parades can be purchased through online travel agencies.
The World cup 2014: The next FIFA world cup 2014 is to be hosted by Brazil. This is yet another milestone for the South American country. This will be the second time Brazil has hosted the competition, the first being was the 1950 FIFA World Cup. This would officially make Brazil the 5th country to have hosted the FIFA world cup twice, others include, Mexico, Italy, France and Germany. This is the 2nd time the world cup would be held in South America, the 1st was 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina. According to FIFA.COM tickets will go on sale after the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013, probably towards the end of August 2013.
The RIO 2016 Summer Olympics: The host city of the Games will be Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as announced at the 121st IOC Session held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on October 2, 2009. The 2016 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad. They are scheduled to be held from August 5 to 21, 2016, which is actually during the winter in the southern hemisphere. However, since Rio is inside the tropics this period will not see the cold winter weather associated with more extreme latitude.
